Flowers
Vases for
VENINI
2014
Initially designed for Venini, Flowers vases are a tribute to the poignant beauty of coral reefs, flowers that are not plants but for animals, blooming on the threshold of the more bottomless sea. Here are creatures so exquisitely fashioned that they seem unreal, their beauty too fragile to exist in a world of crushing force. Yet every detail is functionally sound, every stalk and hydranth and petal-like tentacle fashioned for dealing with realities of existence.
In 2014 the project consisted of a vases triptych. In 2022, Trevisan returned to the project, developing the most petite vase in three dimensions.

Process
Between 2012 and 2013, Trevisan was the holder of an FSE research grant at the Iuav University of Venice, in partnership with Venini, focused on developing new unique geometries for glass design.
Tropical coral reefs have mesmerized Trevisan for as long as she can remember. She is also profoundly saddened by their demise. Our CO2 emissions make seawater warmer and more acidic, devastating coral reefs. Trevisan believes that design as art touches our emotions and can move us to value the planet we live on in ways that scientific data often cannot.
Flowers pieces consist of handmade blown glass works inspired by the fragile beauty of reefs. It feels essential that the medium of this work be glass. Glass is a fragile material, just like the delicate bodies of living reef organisms. This shared fragility is fundamental to the message of the pieces.
