Tobi
Sofa for
Sitland
2020
Tobi is a collection of sofas designed by Elena Trevisan for Sitland.
Suspended in time and space, just like a Zen garden, Tobi induces those who sit on them to distance their minds from everyday life to enjoy maximum comfort. In perfect balance between the essentiality of the design and full volumes, Tobi is inspired by the smooth “Tobi-ishi” stones from which it takes its name and, like them, it seems to float, supported by four solid wood legs. Tobi is enticing in classic settings, perfect in modern environments, and ideal at home as it is in hotel lounges, public spaces, and the office.
Tobi is available in three sizes, designed for every need. It ranges from the three-seater sofa for large spaces to the two-seater sofa, to the one and a half seater perfect for furnishing small rooms and alcoves of domestic environments or keeping your bag and personal items next to you in the solutions for the contract sector.
Padding in differentiated-density polyurethane foam, upholstered in polyester resin. Structure in multilayer and solid wood, with elastic belts on the seat. Wood feet.
Elena Trevisan originally designed the Tobi sofa for the company REXITE. Since 2022, Tobi has been acquired by Sitland.

Process
In Japan, the tea ceremony is a real social and spiritual ritual, at the basis of which there is harmony with nature.
The tea house is reached by following a path (roji) leading to both the place and the contemplative dimension required for the tea ceremony. The stones that trace this path are called “Tobi-ishi”, literally meaning “floating stones”. Tobi incorporates the curvilinear shape of Tobi-ishi stones as well as their essence. Their irregular arrangement slows the pace, marking and emphasising a gradual departure from the everyday world.
Trevisan designed Tobi as a small architecture suspended on point-like elements that seem to float in the surrounding space. Each part contributes to complete the image: for example, with its comfortable form, the seat brings you back to that state of calm, wellbeing, and detachment from everyday life that the tea ceremony induces.
